Journey to There opens up a creative immersion where you are invited to explore the intersection between personal and business growth.

We all have our own set of challenges to solve. They are not always as clear-cut as we’d like to think. When I meet a new client and begin listening to their experiences, a pattern often emerges. Even though they’ve approached a problem from many different angles and implemented various solutions, they often experience a cycle of circling back to a similar place of frustration. Noticing this pattern is the first step to identifying the gaps between where they are and where they want to be.

Several years ago, I received a call I’ve gotten many times before, and since.

“I’m ready to make a huge shift in my career. I’m tired of spinning my wheels and not getting anywhere. I have a big vision, and I want you to help me make it happen.”

When I met the woman for the first time later that week, she dumped a pile of resumés, awards, and credentials on my desk. She spoke matter-of-factly about her accomplishments and grand plans for starting a new chapter in her once lucrative sales career.

“Why is this important to you?” I asked as I set her tower of papers to the side.

“My youngest child just started college and I’m ready to focus on my career now.”

“Why is this particular career path important to you?”

“I have a lot of experience in sales. I was a top performer before I took time off to take care of my son. I can do it again, and more.”

“But why is that important to you?”

She blinked.

“I guess it really isn’t all that important to me, but maybe I’m just scared of any other alternative. Honestly, I always wanted to go into furniture design. I have an art degree and a masters degree in textile engineering. I have a pile of interior design magazine subscriptions I won’t even let myself read. I’ve spent my career in sales, and I was good at it and hated every minute of it.”

Over the past 12 years of researching and working with women entrepreneurs, I’ve discovered that almost all of them had an initial idea of where they wanted to go next, and they assumed all they needed was some accountability and professional guidance to get there. Often, they’ve tried to reach their next milestone on their own, but for some reason, they have been unable to make it happen.

Digging a little deeper, we nearly always discover a truth they are not acknowledging or not aware of that is causing a major gap between where they are and where they want to be. This gap leads them to circle back again and again to the same point of wanting to make a change but not being able to do it. This can lead to months, years, or even decades of spinning their creative and professional wheels.

Because this pattern repeats itself in so many of my clients, I’ve become adept at quickly identifying that gap and illuminating a path to cross it, helping women reach their potential.
